Experiment #3

Work commissioned by the Struggling Art Space.
Experiment #3 is a kinetic sculpture created with second hand products bought and found in a thrift store. A slow motor activates a set of gears in the sculpture that accelerate the rotation speed. The other side of the gears is attached to a second motor that is generating electricity with the movement of the gearbox. Energy that is barely enough to light an LED.
This work is all about the fine line in between. I reflect about the fine line that divides ingenuity and creativity, work and play, art and common objects. In experiment #3 I show a useless machine that consumes energy leading to almost nothing. A feeling that I often have.
