Syncretisms

Syncretisms explores the relationship between analog (in this case acoustic) and electronic media.

The traditional/restricted way of thinking that the visitor should not get close to the object on display is disrupted by an actual invitation to play and activate the sculpture.

A sign saying:
“PLEASE PLAY”
should stand next to the sculpture.

Syncretisms was created based on the music piece Sincretismos which was composed for sound sculpture and electronics.

During the 2020 summer lockdown, the sculpture had to stay in storage for several months. As soon as I was able to come back to my studio I found the marks of time passing by in the rust growing on the sculpture.

In a similar way, during this time we were all forced to keep a social distance. Just like the sculpture, human contact and communication became rusty.
